Headline Options
NewsDesigner.com currently presents a collection on how American newspapers treated the Zarqawi killing. Interesting examples for different approaches indeed, not only from a media studies point of view. (Please note: click on the front page images to enlarge).

I looked at the headlines, some of them are just shocking! I mean there is hardly a sign of professional news presenting, instead it looks more like papers, for instance the New York Post (headline: "Gotcha!" and on the bottom "Warm up the virgins" ), are keen on celebrating U.S. victories. This is also the case with The Virginian Pilot that sais in its headline "How we got him". This does not show objectivity at all! I really think the media should get back to the traditional principles I mentioned in class. I also think even more people will lose trust in traditional news formats as long as it looks like catching attention is more important than telling the public what is going on in the world. The question that comes to my mind is, why does the press not write headlines like " Why we are not smart enough to catch bin Laden"...
